Window cleaning
Window cleaning that makes a room read as finished, limited to glass we can reach safely without theatrical access equipment.
Glass is the part of a room people look through and then forget until a smear sits at eye level. Interior film from cooking, fingerprints on a patio door, and a sill full of grit change the light more than a dusty shelf does. BRERH provides window cleaning services for interior glass and for exterior panes we can reach without theatrical access. The quote names which sides, which floors, and which openings are included. Anything that needs a rope, a swing stage, or a bosun’s chair is outside the work.
Interior glass, side by side
Interior work is the room side of exterior windows, plus interior panes you want included: French doors, a shower enclosure if it is in the scope, a pass-through, a mirror if you add it. Each of those is a different surface. A shower door collects mineral film that a living-room pane does not. Mirrors show streaks that glass against daylight hides. The scope lists them instead of folding every reflective surface into the word “windows.”
The method is straightforward and physical. Edges get a blade of cleaner, the pane is scrubbed, and a squeegee pulls the soil down so it can be wiped rather than left to dry as a line. Tracks and sills are wiped when they are in the quote. A track packed with paint, insect debris, and old weatherstrip is detail work with a time cost, so it is named, not assumed. We move light furniture that blocks a sash. A piano in front of a bay window stays, and the glass behind it is cleaned only as far as a person can safely reach.
Coatings matter. Low-e films, aftermarket tint, and some historic glass do not want a razor. Stickers, paint specks, and construction labels are quoted only with written permission, and only on glass that can accept a scraper. If the pane is coated or the label has baked on for months, we may stop at detergent. A scratch from an aggressive blade is permanent. We would rather leave a speck than sign you up for a replacement pane.
Reachable exterior, and the height limit
Exterior glass is cleaned when we can stand on the ground, on a client balcony with a sound rail, or on a ladder the quote already allowed. The technician looks at footing, weather, and what is below the ladder: a basement well, a glass railing, a bed of river rock, or a public sidewalk changes the decision. Wind that turns a squeegee pass into a spray is a reason to move the appointment, not a reason to rush. Second-story panes are possible only when access is safe and agreed. Above that, if the only way up is a rope or a suspended platform, the answer is no.
BRERH does not perform high-rise rope work, does not hire out a swing stage, and does not clean tower glass from a bosun’s chair. If your building has an in-house rig or a facade contractor, that is the right trade for the upper floors. We can still quote the interior of those same floors, the lobby glass at street level, and any terrace door a person can reach from the terrace. Splitting the building that way is normal. Pretending one crew does both is how a simple window visit turns into an access problem nobody priced.
Screens come off when they release without damage, get a rinse, and go back on the same window. Brittle frames, painted-shut clips, and screens with torn corners stay in place and are noted. We do not rebuild frames. Hard-water spots that have etched the glass will lighten only as far as the mineral sitting on the surface. Etching that has eaten into the pane remains. You can see the difference in the quote conversation: a spot that feels raised may improve; a pit you can catch with a fingernail will still be there when the pane is clean.
Checklist before glass is scheduled
Send this with the request so the visit matches the openings you have.
- Interior only, exterior only, or both, listed by floor.
- A note that exterior work is reachable glass, not rope access.
- Count of large panes, patio doors, and skylights you want included.
- Skylights only if they can be reached from inside or from a safe deck.
- Screens: remove and rinse, or leave them alone.
- Tracks and sills, if you want them, called out as their own line.
- Tint, film, or low-e coatings, and any ban on razor work.
- Obstacles: alarms, child locks, storm windows, or furniture that cannot move.

The light after the film is gone
People notice clean glass in the late afternoon, when the sun hits a pane that used to bloom into haze. The plant on the sill looks sharper. The courtyard reads as closer. None of that requires a speech about the work. It requires edges without a leftover line and a sill that does not shed grit onto the glass the next time someone opens the sash.
A room with tall interior windows asks for time and a clear floor. We would rather you know that a bay will take a while than imply every house is a set of standard double-hungs. If a pane is cracked, we clean up to the crack and we do not flex it. If a storm window is sealed from a past paint job, we leave that unit and tell you.
The pleasure of the result is ordinary: you can see out. BRERH keeps the scope on the glass we can reach, and leaves the rest of the facade to the people who are equipped for it.
Houses, storefronts, and offices
A house visit is usually daytime, with someone home or with a clear note about alarms and pets. A storefront is often early, before the shop opens, so the sidewalk work is done before customers lean on the glass. An office might want interior partitions after hours so a squeegee is not crossing a meeting. Those are different clocks, and the quote should pick one. Combining a residential morning with a tower exterior is not a combination we offer, because the tower exterior is out of scope entirely.

Interior means the room side of the panes, plus any interior doors, partitions, or mirrors you added in writing. Exterior means the outside face when a person can reach it from the ground, from a balcony you make available, or from a ladder height that was already agreed. Skylights are included only when they can be reached safely from inside or from a deck. Shower glass and mirrors are separate lines because mineral film and reflection show streaks differently than a view window. If a pane is blocked by furniture we cannot move, we clean the reachable portion and note the rest. We do not estimate “all windows” and then decide the list on the sidewalk.
No. BRERH does not do high-rise rope work. We do not use rope descent, a bosun’s chair, or a suspended scaffold, and we do not subcontract that access under a window-cleaning invoice. Upper floors of a tower need a facade contractor or the building’s own rig. What we can do in a tall building is the interior glass, the lobby and street-level storefront, and any terrace door reached from the terrace itself. If you are unsure whether a pane is reachable, send a photo from the ground and from inside. We would rather decline a third-story exterior with bad footing than stretch a ladder into a quote that never mentioned one. Weather can also move an agreed ladder day. Wind and wet stone are reasons to reschedule, not reasons to improvise access.
Mineral sitting on the surface often comes off with the right cleaner and some dwell time. Mineral that has etched the glass does not. Etching is damage to the pane, and detergent cannot rebuild glass. A technician can usually tell the difference by look and by touch, and will tell you before promising a result. Sprinkler overspray, a dripping sill, and a shower door are the common sources. Restoration grinding of etched glass is a specialty we do not sell inside a standard window visit. If you want that, it belongs with a glass restoration firm, and it carries its own risk of haze. Our scope stops at cleaning. Paint specks and stickers are similar: they come off only with permission, and not on coated or tinted panes where a blade can leave a permanent mark.
There is no universal interval. A house away from an arterial road may want interior glass a few times a year and exterior work in spring and fall. A storefront on a busy sidewalk may want the street face much more often, sometimes monthly, because handprints return in days. An office with interior partitions may add glass to a nightly or weekly office cleaning only for fingerprints on doors, and keep a fuller squeegee visit on a longer cycle. Pollen season, nearby construction, and a kitchen that fries often will shorten the interval. The quote can state a cadence without locking you into it. If construction dust is still falling, cleaning glass before the trades finish is wasted money, and we will say so. Schedule the thorough visit when the openings are no longer a work zone.
